It is with huge sadness that we announce the passing of Val McClean. Val passed peacefully at her home on Wednesday 16th July, in the evening. She leaves behind her husband Peter, two sons and four grandchildren.
Val was one of our most loved bowls club members, always gregarious, and extremely sociable. Always going the extra mile in making our new members extremely welcome. She was especially good with any youngsters who came to the club.

Val always enjoyed her bowls, joining the club in 2007. Playing Outdoor Bowls, and making her mark in village friendlies. She won the Gala Shield in her first year. More recently, enjoying indoor Short Mat Bowls. She always made a huge contribution to our bowls club social life and loved her amateur dramatics. As part of our bowls club social life, her acting roles for plays put on by the club included characters in Dad’s Army and ‘Allo ‘Allo. She enjoyed a glass of wine and often made a trifle for club social evenings, even though she didn’t eat it herself! Her and Peter went to Potters every September with the club, where she always had good fun.
She first met Peter at The Salon (dance hall). He offered her a lift home, only for her to discover it was on his scooter!
Her funeral was held on Friday 15th August 2025 at 1.15pm, at The Counties Crematorium. It was extremely well attended, with many bowlers taking the opportunity to bid Val fond farewell. A large group of family members, friends, and bowlers gathered at the clubhouse following the event.
R.I.P Val, you will, indeed, be sadly missed.
